Watershed Resort "The Watershed Resort is a 50-acre property at the gateway to the Nantahala Gorge convenient to Cherokee, Bryson City, the Nantahala River, Fontana Lake, and more. The resort-like property features amenities such as a common area we call "the Yard" with a bocce ball court and other yard games as well as our "log-zebo" bedswing that is perched perfectly overlooking the Nantahala Gorge to the west for awesome sunsets. We can also host weddings and corporate events here. Also on the property is a hiking trail that leads to a playground where we have our own authentic tee-pee (traditionalists may prefer it "tipi"). Keep hiking and find our own on-site waterfall area with trout pond (feeding only, no fishing). The lodging on this property ranges from one bedroom "Treehouse" units (4-plex units that are our best value) to 4 bedroom cabins with pool tables, foosball, outside fireplaces, and more. Each unit of course has a private hot tub and deck. We even have some unique lodging such as our Woodland Lofts (modern-styled, loft-esque units in a cluster of 3 with central fire pit) and in 2013 are adding "glamping" to the site. While each cabin is independent, they are generally walking distance to each other and therefore ideal for family reunions, weddings, or other large groups."

Shopping Experience

Cherokee is an easy town to explore and a fun place to shop. Stores are sprinkled throughout town and there is plenty of parking. In fact, it's a snap to meander from store to store taking it all in.

Of course, many stores carry Cherokee crafts such as Cherokee Indian pottery, baskets and beadwork; as well as other locally made gifts such as dream catchers, dolls and woodcrafts.

But you might be surprised to see the variety of home furnishings, hand-painted and rustic furniture, books, CDs, jewelry and unique gift items available throughout Cherokee.

Leather goods are also very popular in Cherokee. Many stores stock handbags, belts, backpacks, hats and wallets; as well as biker apparel such as vests, jackets and chaps.

Cherokee's Famous
Street Chiefs

Street chiefs and dancers perform on curb side stages outside retail shops and souvenir stores, entertaining crowds of shoppers. The shows, often featuring the traditional, 'friendship dance' (with audience participation, below), 'eagle dance' and 'hoop dance', are free; yet tipping is encouraged, particularly when the "chiefs" pose for photographs. It's a tradition that began years ago with the late Chief Henry, who was once billed as "The World's Most Photographed Indian."
