Oconaluftee Indian Village
Date(s): Jun 01, 2013 - Jun 30, 2013
When: Monday - Saturday
Where: Drama Rd

Once you are at the Village, you will see that it’s more than just a place. It is
also a time: 1760. The best way to get there is to un-tether yourself from the
world that you know. Turn off your stress. Put your watch in your pocket. Sit
under the trees, breathe the pure mountain air, and notice that the only sounds
here come from nature. No cars. No blaring TVs. And instead of burnt fossil
fuel, the faint tang of wood smoke wafts by on the breeze. Follow it. Embrace it
at your own pace. As you step into the Oconaluftee Indian Village, you’re
transported back to witness the challenges of Cherokee life at a time of rapid
cultural change. This year for the first time, visitors will be able to take
self-guided tours to explore the historic events and figures of the 1760's.
Visitors can interact with villagers as they  participate in their daily
activities. The Village also hosts live reenactments, interactive
demonstrations, and Hands-On Cherokee Pottery for Kids classes.

Unto These Hills
Date(s): Jun 01, 2013 - Jun 30, 2013
When: Monday-Saturday
Where: Drama Rd- Mountainside Theater
You can feel an ever so slight chill run up your spine. But it is not from the
mountain winds shifting their direction in anticipation of the coming dusk, it
is from your anticipation of the coming drama. It is a feeling millions before
you have felt as the lights dim and you are transported back to the beginning of
time, through the pageantry of one of the longest running outdoor dramas in the
U.S. It is the same reaction visitors have had since the first showing of "Unto
These Hills" nearly six million tickets ago. But it is also very different from
the drama of days past. The show today has been reconcepted to better portray
the unique story of the Cherokee from a historical perspective. The new play
traces the Cherokee people through the eons, through the zenith of their power,
through the heartbreak of the Trail of Tears, finally ending, appropriately, in
the present day, where the Cherokee people, much like their newly re-scripted
drama, continue to rewrite their place in the world. A place based on
traditional Cherokee values and modern sensibilities

Dwight Yoakam
Date(s): Jun 14, 2013
When: 9 pm
Where: Harrahs Cherokee Casino

Few entertainers have attained the iconic status of Dwight Yoakam.  Perhaps that is because so few have consistently and repeatedly met the high standard of excellence delivered by the Kentucky native no matter what his endeavor. His name immediately conjures up compelling, provocative images: A pale cowboy hat with the brim pulled low; poured-on blue jeans; intricate, catchy melodies paired with poignant, brilliant lyrics that mesmerize with their indelible imprint.  Then there’s Yoakam the actor, who seemingly melts into his roles, impressively standing toe-to-toe with some of the world’s top thespians: Jodie Foster, Tommy Lee Jones, Forest Whitaker, Nicholas Cage. Add to that Yoakam the entrepreneur and you have a singular talent without peer.
